“Trust me, I’m Spider-Man!” | 3D-Animation
Overview
Inspired by the iconic "Spider-Man Pointing" meme, this 3D short film was created during my 3rd semester in a team of three. We brought three distinct versions of Spider-Man together on a New York rooftop, blending classic LEGO physics with fast-paced comic book choreography and humor.
Project & Team Breakdown
o Insa L.: Casual Suit Spider-Man (Croissant/Bicycle street scene)
o Dorothee B.: Classic Red/Blue Suit Spider-Man (Alleyway fight & Wall-run scene)
Key Technical & Creative Contributions
3D Character Animation (Autodesk Maya)
Shading & Visual Style (Arnold / Photoshop)
Editing, Motion Graphics & Audio (Premiere Pro & After Effects)

Project & Team Breakdown
- Project Type: University Group Project (3 Members)
-
My Role: 3D Animation, Character Texturing, Lighting,
Editing & Compositing
- Assets & Rigging: Utilized provided base LEGO character rigs. Environment assets were sourced from the Mecabricks gallery and customized to fit our specific scene layouts.
- Team Breakdown:
o Insa L.: Casual Suit Spider-Man (Croissant/Bicycle street scene)
o Dorothee B.: Classic Red/Blue Suit Spider-Man (Alleyway fight & Wall-run scene)
Key Technical & Creative Contributions
3D Character Animation (Autodesk Maya)
- Alleyway Fight Choreography: Animated the classic Spider-Man's entry into the dark alley, featuring a dynamic kick-combo against a gangster, stylized web-swings, and character acting.
- Vertical Wall-Running: Designed a comedic sequence where Spider-Man runs horizontally up a glass skyscraper facade to reach the rooftop destination.
- Rooftop Standoff: Animated the landing sequence and character reactions of the Red/Blue Spider-Man for the final three-way meme confrontation.
Shading & Visual Style (Arnold / Photoshop)
-
Hand-Drawn Textures: Painted the custom suit textures for the classic
Red/Blue Spider-Man in Photoshop using the pre-unwrapped UV maps.
- Cel-Shaded Look: Configured Arnold’s aiToon shader to achieve a stylized, black-outlined comic aesthetics across the entire environment and characters.
Editing, Motion Graphics & Audio (Premiere Pro & After Effects)
-
Dynamic Split-Screen
Compositing: Structured and edited
the comic-style split-screen sequence in Premiere Pro to showcase all three
Spider-Men traveling to the rooftop simultaneously.
- Animated On-Screen FX: While Insa created the base design of the 2D comic sound effects and the "Spider-Sense" tingle in After Effects, we each keyframed the elements according to the scene.
- Audio & Final Cut: Assembled the individual shots into the final sequence and added the music downloaded from Pixabay.
